What happens in coaching supervision?
The purpose of supervision is to ensure that the best interests of the Coachee and the Client are protected and to provide educative and restorative support to the coach. Myles Downey
Getting to know you and your coaching
When I work with coaching clients and supervisee clients, I always aim to do so from a place of learning to find out how best to help you.
I always send out a questionnaire at the start of a working relationship. I find this also helps you to start thinking about your practice in a more holistic way, and perhaps identify issues you may want to bring to coaching supervision.
We’ll also talk through how we can set up an effective, personalised contract together.
Time to talk about you
I ‘ll spend time with you on our first session, which is always longer, which will be dedicated to fully understanding the context you are working in. During this, we’ll also talk about your goals as a coach – how and why you got into coaching, your professional development and plans to continue to learn and grow as a coach.
What does a session look like?
Each session may be different, and can depend if we are working one to one, in a group or in pairs. I believe in structuring sessions so that they best work for you. Here’s an example of how an hour’s session format may work for you.
Before the session:
- I’ll send out a reminder and check if you already have something specific you’d like to focus on. It’s ok if you don’t and it’s ok if you do! Supervision means we respond to what’s most relevant to you, in the here and now.
During the session:
- I’ll check what presence you’re bringing. We’ll talk through what you want from the session, what will add most value to you and how we’ll know at the end of the session that our time together has been useful to you.
- We’ll work together on the issue(s) that are most important to you at that time.
After the session:
- I’ll ask you to update me with any actions you took away to help keep you accountable
- I’ll share any useful resources I have
- I’ll check in with you via email and ask what was most useful
What’s next?
If this sounds like a way of working that would suit you, please contact me (link) to arrange a complimentary Meet and Greet Action Discussion to find out how I can add value to your coaching.
Dear Claire thank you so much for your time. I am now happier that I can take my coaching business forward and although I do not think I shall be going in the same direction as you some of the information and site links you sent me will be invaluable to get me started and develop my own website & content etc. The sessions have been very helpful to me and I wish you luck in your business. Sincerely Martena
