Awake at work

Are you awake as a coach and to the opportunities which are being shown to you?
The more I look into mindfulness as a coach and how it impacts on the coaching we do, the more I realise how much I feel that the dots are being connected.
Take this as an example. I recently, given the new focus coming out in my work of mindfulness, decided to create a google alert for the term mindfulness. I clicked through today to a couple of articles that I thought sounded interesting.
This one on Mindful Leadership took my interest, and when I linked through I found out it was about Michael Carroll, whose book “Awake at Work” I have and really enjoyed about how we can use Buddhist Principles to inform the way we work. I loved this phrase in the article
“Through Mindful Leadership, an individual finds mindfulness in their self and extends — not inflicts — it to others”
This is what I want to do as a coach and coach supervisor. I want to grow my own mindfulness, and also through developing knowledge and awareness, as well as personal curiosity, help to extend the knowledge and benefit to other coaches. It’s not about inflicting it, it’s about a sense of expansion in the self and expansion of the benefits of working mindfully and in presence, to the way you work with your coaching clients.
Three questions for you to reflect on today:
- Are you finding mindfulness in yourself?
- Are you extending it or inflicting it? How do you know?
- Are you AWAKE in your work?
