Coaching Supervision – Coaching Assured

I was very interested in this post by Dorothy Nesbit, Coaching Supervision, when anti-climax is the key measure of success.
Coaching Supervision for me has a huge role to play in this sense of assurance about our coaching performance.
When I worked for a large organisation, I had a meeting with my manager once a week where I could talk through the performance of my team, my development, hitting targets and anything else key to my job.
Coaching and Learning – Discovering, Applying and Integrating

I’ve just read a fabulous journal article by Kerryn Griffifths who runs the great Recipro-Coach Service. Recipro-Coaching works that you coach one person, and are coached by someone completely different. I’ve used it a few times and really recommend it.
As well as this great service, Kerryn has also been doing research into how coaching and learning fit together and has recently published it with the International Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring.
When I was putting this post on coaching and learning together, I was searching for pictures to illustrate the point, and found this fabulous one of a lightbulb moment. I’ve always personally found it’s those powerful, lightbulb “aha” moments which speak to transformation in the client, as part of the coaching process.

As a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), one of the really useful things I get is a regular newsletter giving me updates on training and courses, news and best practice.
As a supervisor, I am always interested in best practice and in the development of coaching supervision and mentor coaching.
It was great to read Claire Palmer had an article in this months newsletter about how the UK Coaching Industry is coming together to work on an agreed picture of coaching supervision. Claire is a fellow UK ICF Coach, working at the PCC level and we recently hooked up via LinkedIn.
Mindful and creativity

I just read a very interesting post on Mindfulness and Creativity
How would it be if what it said was
“ Play this piece in the finest manner you can, offering subtle new nuances to your performance.”
Only smarties have the answer…

Coaching without answers.
As a coach, it’s important to remember “only smarties have the answer!”
Why?
As coaches, it can be easy to lose our mindfulness of the fact that coaching is not consultancy. We want to do our best by our clients. We want to be the best we can given the fact we have invested time and money to becoming coaches.
And yet…
Relax, not being a hamster!

Are you on the hamster wheel of life, and how does that show up in your coaching?
Ever just stop and ask yourself what’s going on with you and how you work? That’s one thing that a coach/ supervisor is GREAT to help you with, that sense of a new perspective. I’d said to my coach recently that I wanted to start living differently, in line with being more mindful, and that part of this was about being able to LIVE in accordance with the law of abundance and the law of attraction. In fact what I find I do is say I want to live that way and then my brain starts off on all the things I need to DO in order to get clients, income, create work etc.
So obviously, there is a difference here going on for me. I didn’t really realise how much until my coach said
“Why don’t you not do anything about your business this week, and just relax into the moment?”
And immediately, I felt the resistance, a big, fat, humungous NO coming out of me.
Part of my next steps was to listen to myself and be with that no, and try to work out, compassionately, with myself what I could do in the meantime, whilst still listening to what the resistance was about.
Awake at work

Are you awake as a coach and to the opportunities which are being shown to you?
The more I look into mindfulness as a coach and how it impacts on the coaching we do, the more I realise how much I feel that the dots are being connected.
Take this as an example. I recently, given the new focus coming out in my work of mindfulness, decided to create a google alert for the term mindfulness. I clicked through today to a couple of articles that I thought sounded interesting.
This one on Mindful Leadership took my interest, and when I linked through I found out it was about Michael Carroll, whose book “Awake at Work” I have and really enjoyed about how we can use Buddhist Principles to inform the way we work. I loved this phrase in the article
